Why the Eson 2

Diffuser included: 21.3 dBA

Exhaled air leaves through holes in the elbow and passes through a washable textile diffuser that lowers the noise and spreads the draft. With it in place, Fisher & Paykel measures 21.3 dBA sound power level, and 13.3 dBA sound pressure level.

No magnets anywhere

Fisher & Paykel states that its masks don’t contain magnets, so there are no magnetic clips on the headgear or the frame.

A swivel that comes off for cleaning

The hose connects through the F&P Swivel 2, which comes off the elbow so you can wash it. The elbow itself stays on the mask — Fisher & Paykel says home users shouldn’t remove it.

Sound power is the total noise the vent gives off; sound pressure is the other figure the manufacturer publishes — the two aren’t interchangeable. When you compare masks, compare the same measure. As a nasal mask, the Eson 2 seals around the nose, not inside it, and it works as long as you breathe through your nose while you sleep.

Will it fit my machine?

Fisher & Paykel’s instructions list the Eson 2 for use with approved CPAP or bilevel equipment, and the manufacturer describes it as compatible with all home PAP devices. Do I need a prescription for this mask?

No. Masks, cushions, headgear, tubing and filters ship without a prescription. Only the CPAP or BiPAP machine itself requires one.

How do I choose my Eson 2 size?

Use Fisher & Paykel’s official printable Eson 2 sizing guide. Print it on US Letter paper, check the scale against a ruler, and cut out the three triangular templates (Small, Medium and Large). Hold them over your nose and follow the guide’s instructions; a mirror or a second pair of hands helps. Each size we sell is a complete mask with one seal, so it’s worth doing before you order. Is this a fit pack with all three seals?

No. Each option is the complete Eson 2 nasal mask with headgear and one seal in the size you choose — ESN2SA is the Small, ESN2MA the Medium and ESN2LA the Large. Fisher & Paykel’s fit pack with all three seals is a different item (ESN2SML). If you want every seal size in one box, the Solo Nasal FitPack is a Fisher & Paykel nasal mask that includes them.

What does the diffuser do — do I need it?

It softens the noise and the draft of the air leaving the elbow. Fisher & Paykel says it doesn’t significantly change the flow, so the mask can be used with or without it — but the 21.3 dBA figure is with the diffuser in place. Hand wash it after 7 days of use, without scrubbing it or soaking it for more than 10 minutes, and make sure it’s completely dry before each use. If you replace it, use only a genuine Fisher & Paykel Eson 2 diffuser.

How do I clean the Eson 2?

After each use, wash the mask — without the headgear and diffuser — in warm, soapy water, without soaking it for more than 10 minutes; rinse it well and let it dry out of direct sunlight. Hand wash the headgear and the diffuser after 7 days of use. Don’t use products with alcohol, antibacterial or antiseptic agents, bleach, chlorine or moisturizers, don’t put it in the dishwasher, and don’t store it in the sun.

How often should I replace it?

Fisher & Paykel’s instructions say the mask should be replaced no later than 12 months after the date of first use, and that any part showing visible deterioration should be replaced.

Nasal or nasal pillows — which one?

If you breathe through your nose, a nasal mask usually feels steady. If you have a beard, wear glasses in bed, or feel closed in, nasal pillows are usually the better fit. Your sleep provider decides the mask type; call us and we’ll talk it through.

Will it work with my CPAP?

Yes, if it’s a CPAP or bilevel machine: that’s what Fisher & Paykel’s instructions list, and the manufacturer describes the Eson 2 as compatible with all home PAP devices. If your machine is unusual or you’re not sure, call us before you order.

It leaks. What do I do first?

Loosen the headgear, don’t tighten it — over-tightening deforms the cushion and makes leaks worse. Reseat it with the machine running, and if it still leaks, try the next size. Still stuck? Call us.
