What sieve beds actually do

The quiet workhorses inside every oxygen concentrator.

Sieve beds — also called columns — are packed with a mineral called zeolite that works as a molecular sieve. As air is pushed through them, the zeolite traps nitrogen and lets the oxygen pass, so what reaches your cannula is concentrated oxygen at roughly 90% or more.

Every concentrator relies on this. But the zeolite doesn’t last forever: with use it gradually saturates and wears, the columns hold less nitrogen, and oxygen purity and overall efficiency start to slip. Replacing the sieve beds resets that — fresh zeolite, full purity, a concentrator that performs the way it was built to.

When to replace your columns

Sieve beds are wear parts — they’re meant to be renewed on a schedule.

Signs it’s time: lower oxygen purity, a drop in performance or run-time, or a purity alert from the unit. Heavy daily use, dusty environments, and higher flow settings all shorten sieve bed life. If you’re unsure, call us and we’ll help you tell.
