The genuine barb is sized to seal the G5 outlet and the output-filter channel behind it. A loose or off-spec barb can leak oxygen or fail to seal the filter properly.

Is the cannula barb a filter?

No. It is the connector that attaches your cannula to the device outlet. The output filter (RP-410) sits directly behind it.

How often should I replace it?

Inogen recommends replacing it about once a year, or sooner if it loosens, cracks, or won't hold a secure seal.

I have a Rove 6 — is this the right part?

For the Rove 6, use the RP-506 cannula barb instead. The RP-505 shown here is for the G5.

Do I need a tool to change it?

No pliers are needed. To reach the output filter beneath it, the RP-404 tool helps lift the barb cleanly.
