Inogen One G5 & Rove 6 Maintenance Schedule: Every Filter and Part, and When to Replace It

Why it matters: if you only rinse the outside mesh screen and never change the internal intake filter, dust works its way toward the columns — the compressor pulls harder, the unit runs louder, and column life shortens. Keeping the intake filter fresh is cheap insurance for an expensive part.

1. The particle filter — rinse it weekly
On the G5 and Rove 6, the particle filter is an external mesh screen (a blue-framed metal mesh — not foam) that clips into the unit. Because it’s washable, the job here is cleaning, not buying: pop it out, wash with mild unscented dish soap, rinse, dry completely, and clip it back in — at least weekly. Replace it only when it gets misshapen or the mesh is damaged.
2. The intake filter (SP-804) — replace about every 6 months
The SP-804 is the internal filter that traps dust before it reaches the sieve beds. It’s a genuine Inogen part that fits both the G5 and the Rove 6 (not the G3/G4 — those use a different filter). Swapping it is tool-free and takes under a minute.
Signs it’s time: visible gray buildup on the white filter media · the unit runs louder than usual · it’s been about 6 months (sooner with pets, dust, or heavy daily use).
3. The sieve bed columns (RP-502) — let the device tell you
The RP-502 pair holds the sieve beds — the columns that separate nitrogen from air to give you concentrated oxygen. Replace them when the unit shows the “Replace Columns” alert (usually around 12 months, up to 12–18 depending on hours), within 30 days.
